May 2026 Edition “Trust in the Lord”
Introduction
Welcome to our new bi-monthly communication “Home in Every Way”.
Yes, we are plagiarising our own strap line, but we think it is appropriate as it reflects ohfi’s
Vision and denotes our wholistic approach to the work we do. A safe and loving home is the best place for a child to be.
This communication aims to bring alignment of our latest prayer reflections and news updates, while hopefully not over doing our messaging to you.
Welcome to Josephine and thanks to Ewen
My name is Josephine Olsen, and I have been invited to take on the role of creating ohfi’s prayer focus. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to our founder Ewen for the many years he has faithfully dedicated to producing our prayer communications—it has been a real blessing to so many.
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to contribute in this way and to support the wonderful work of ohfi, along with its partners, supporters, country groups, and Board. It is a privilege to serve and to help share and uphold this ministry in prayer.
A little bit about my background: I have a deep passion for serving the poor and vulnerable, and for the past 25 years I have been working within local communities in Wellington, New Zealand. I also have a strong heart for intercession and for inner healing. I look forward to getting to know you all as we journey forward together. Each one of you is making a real difference in the lives of children and families in places where life can be incredibly challenging.
(Matthew 25:40, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of these little ones you did for me).
Reflection for May

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, but on every word that comes from God” (Proverbs 3:5).
Be assured, I sense the Lord reminding us that whatever challenges we may face—whether in our mission or in our personal lives—God is always faithful to His promises and to His Word. What He has begun in us and through us, He will surely bring to completion.
In essence God is inviting us to something deeper: trust. To trust in the Lord means believing that He is already present among the poor you serve. He walks in every village, every crowded street, every struggling family. Even when resources are limited or outcomes uncertain, God is at work in ways we cannot always understand.
When you “lean not on your own understanding,” you accept that your service is not about fixing every problem, but about faithfully being God’s hands, feet, and heart. A smile, a listening ear, a shared meal—these simple acts become powerful when rooted in trust.
